YOUTH - LEADERSHIP - EMPOWERMENT

 

• What is the Abilities Now Youth Summit?

  • ​As part of Partnership for Access Awareness Nova Scotia week, we are holding an event to allow up to 20 young Nova Scotians living with disabilities the opportunity to voice their concerns and develop leadership skills as they move toward productive and healthy lives. This event aims to bridge the gap between youth, adults and government, by creating a space for conversation to happen around issues of importance to youth.

 

• Where is the event?

  • ​The event will be held May 29th, 2pm - May 31st, 2pm at Camp Tidnish.

 

• What will we be doing?

  • ​Together we will tackle issues of importance to the partcipants. Examples can include information access, education, employment opportunities, barriers to participation in society (both physical and attitudinal), transportation and housing and more!

  • We will use interactive and participatory activities such as World Cafe, Open Space and Fishbowl to have these conversations. 

 

• Why should I go?​

  • This will be a unique, inspirational and empowering weekend for all who attend.

    • Yout: it is your chance to have your voice heard in a safe environment.

    • Adults: it is your opportunity to learn how to better understand what youth need from services and programs.

    • Government: it is your opportunity to learn directly from youth how they see the future of this province and how they can help shape it.

  • The Abilities Summit will be heavily based on what the youth need and want in order to gain the leadership skills and empowerment they need for going back to their own communities.

 

• What should I bring?

  • ​​Your idea, passion and enthusiam!

  • Bedding and towels

  • Enough clothing and personal supplies for the duration of the weekend. 

  • Please do not bring scented products. These will produce severe allergies with some of our participants.
